Mixed Media Canvas

Hello friends today is my very talented and good friend for many many years Tammi’s birthday. If you still have a minute swing by her blog and check her artwork out. She is so very gifted!

Some of you may remember a couple of pieces (bag and die storage which used the original) I did show on my blog a few weeks ago using exactly this image. Yes! I did play with it. It all started off with this canvas idea I wanted to make for Tammi but honestly I was worried starting my first canvas cutting the colored image out and what if it wouldn’t adhere correct with the supplies I had on hand?! So the one image you see here used is actually a copy of the original. The digital image is by Krista Smith, which allowed me to print it out 100% as large as possible.
Tammis canvas_2This was my first attempt using Distress paint dabbers as color medium only and also using stencils. There was definitely a learning process how to hold the brush and what product to get to achieve the raised textured effect. I only had Modge Podge in gloss on hand, on the Artwork its not as shiny as it appears here on the pictures, that’s only because I had my day light lamps right in front of the counter but if you would want to make something like that I would like the matte look better for next time.

Tammis canvas_1Here are the supplies used:
Krista Smith Saturated Canary Digital stamp
other stamps used: Stampin up Background stamp French script, posy and Magnolia butterfly stamp (any outlined stamp)
Supplies: 12x12 canvas, Texture paste, spatula, Gesso, water spray bottle, Distress paints in pink, green, white and blue, Washi tape and Magnolia ink mini 6x6 design paper, alphabet stickers, ink pads in pink and blue, Gel Medium, Stickles, stencils, white gel pen and black multiliner ( I did alter the balloon a bit) it’s a wonderful set perfect also for the doodeling I did on THIS jungle Magnolia canvas.

Here is a brief description how I created the background
1) paint canvas with a good layer of Gesso, this seals the fabric so you can create the water color effect. Let dry.
2) apply randomly color with your Distress paint dabbers and spray with a water mist bottle. Move canvas until you have the desired look. Don’t forget sides of canvas. Let dry use if needed heat tool.
3) embellish with design papers (adhere with gel medium or Modge Podge), image, flowers, ect
4) load paint brush with Distress paint (I thinned my paint with some water) and add a drop to the top of the canvas and let run down. Repeat with different colors and or add more paint if you want the paint to run down further. Less is more, you want to be in control how far the drip goes over your image.
5) seal canvas with sealant as with Modge podge

As always I want to thank you for your time out of your day to come and see me. I really appreciate you all.
hugs

Claudia
